Crispy Thalipeeth |
Lauki/Doodhi ki Roti
I wanted to try a new taste, at that time I saw Bottle gourd in the fridge and thought to make Thalipeeth out of it. Once finished, It came out as expected.
You can prepare it in 45-50 minutes
Ingredients
- Rava 1 cup
- Grated Bottle
gourd (Lauki /ಸೋರೆಕಾಯಿ) 1 cup (peeled and grated)
- Onion 1 cup (finely chopped)
- Curry leaves 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
- Coriander leaves 2-3 tbsp (finely chopped)
- Ginger half-inch (finely chopped)
- Green chillies 2 (finely chopped)
- Cumin seeds/jeera 1 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Water 2 cup / 1 glass
- Oil half cup for roasting and greasing
Procedure
- Soak Rava for 1-2 minutes and drain off the water
- Take a pan, now add water, salt, grated Bottle gourd, onion, curry leaves, ginger, green chillies, cumin seeds and mix well. Let it boil for 2-3 minutes
- Now add coriander leaves and drained Rava and stir continuously till it becomes a soft dough. It should be softer than chapati dough. (Rava should be boiled like Upma) and switch off the gas stove
- Keep it aside for 5 minutes
- Now grease with few drops of oil to your hands and divide the dough into 6-8 portions, and make medium balls of the dough
- Place parchment paper/aluminium foil on the flat surface and grease it with few drops of oil (If you have banana leaf you can use it instead of aluminium foil/parchment paper)
- Take one dough ball and place it over parchment paper. Flatten slightly and grease few drops of oil on the flattened dough ball
- Pat, it evenly into a thin round circle with the help of your fingers. Pat dough ball till it becomes ¼ inch or little more flatten roti
- Make 3 holes in roti. This helps make your roti crispy.
- Heat griddle/ roti tava over medium flame. When it is medium hot, take the parchment paper with flattened roti, flip it on tava and slowly peel/separate the parchment paper from the flattened roti (as shown in below picture)
- Spread/ drizzle oil over roti hole and around the edges
- Cook until bottom surface turns light golden brown or for around 1-2 minutes.
- Flip it over another side and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Transfer it to a plate and serve hot with pudina/coconut chutney :)
If you don't have a bottle gourd, you can replace it with cucumber. It will also give you a good taste.
